    Bold.
    Graphic.
    Unmistakable.

Solid black ink at its most intentional. Geometric patterns with mathematical precision, tribal forms rooted in cultural lineage, and graphic compositions that command presence without needing colour to justify themselves.

    The discipline

    Black ink. No compromise.

Black ink has no second takes. Every fill, every edge, every negative space is a permanent decision.

Black work is the oldest form of tattooing and the most unforgiving. Solid fills must be even and complete. Geometric patterns must be precise — a line a fraction off-angle collapses the entire composition. Tribal forms carry cultural weight that demands respect and understanding before they can be worn with integrity.

Shawn approaches black work with the rigour it demands. Every geometric composition is drawn to mathematical precision. Tribal-influenced work is always discussed in context — understanding the lineage behind a form is as important as placing it correctly on the body. The result is work that is bold without being aggressive, and graphic without being cold.

A palm-sized geometric piece typically takes 3–5 hours. Larger compositions — sleeves, back pieces, full panels — are planned across multiple sessions to maintain quality and allow healing between stages. Shawn will give you a realistic timeline during consultation.

Tribal tattooing carries deep cultural significance across many traditions. Shawn takes this seriously — a conversation about the origin and meaning of any tribal-influenced work is part of every consultation. Original geometric compositions inspired by tribal aesthetics are always an option.

With proper aftercare and sun protection, solid black ink holds extremely well — often better than colour or fine line. The ink may soften slightly over years but remains bold. Touch-ups are available for any areas that need refreshing.

Solid fills require the needle to pass over the same area multiple times, which can feel more intense than outline work. That said, the steady, predictable motion is manageable. Session length is planned with your comfort in mind.

Yes — extensions, additional panels, and complementary elements can all be planned around existing work. Shawn will assess the existing tattoo's age and quality before designing any additions.
